POP HEALTH FORUM: A HIMSS EVENT

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center implemented a strategic initiative earlier this year called “Know Your Cost Campaign” with a goal to: 1. Better understand the relationship between cost and quality of cancer care; and, 2. Achieve financial stability and growth in an increasingly demanding healthcare environment.
As part of the campaign, MD Anderson analyzed comparative data at other cancer centers to develop an approach to improving efficiencies, reduce waste, standardize practices, and reduce avoidable complications. All of which affect length of stay, mortality, OR utilization, coding and documentation and its impact on reimbursement.
The early results indicate a healthier case-mix index and lower direct costs, but there is still work to be done.
In this session, attendees will learn how MD Anderson is using data to adjust its operating structure to meet the needs of a complex population at a lower costs as healthcare transitions from volume to value.
